First stop Go to ZamZar.com, browse for your file and choose PNG format for the format to conver to under Step 2.

PNG just happens to be a newer picture format that is slowly replacing the JPG format.

Most programs that open JPG files can also open PNG.

Zamzar automatically converts each page in the PDF document into it’s own PNG picture file.

Now all you need to do is simply open Microsoft Paint (yes, all you need it Paint!) and choose File - Save As from the menu and choose JPEG from the drop down list of formats.

Or better still if you have adobe photoshop; you can open the file and make enhancements to the file as you wish.

Egnyte.com - Backup your files, store them securely, export them back to your computer in a crash. Share with co-workers for collaborative work.

ElephantDrive.com - 1GB of free storage, automated backups; up to 1TB in subscription form.

File123.com - 1GB of space for free, up to 10GB of backup for as low as $4.95 a month.

gDisk - Turn your Gmail account in to an online storage space for free.

When you have multiple servers at a site, the conventional method used by many businesses would be to set up a central backup server with a tape library.  The problem with this solution is that it creates a bottleneck and a single point of backup failure within your network.  Also, with slower backup and recovery speeds, no quick 24/7 access to data recovery, human error and the manual intervention required to get data offsite, tapes have proved to be an unreliable method.  This often cumbersome and lengthy process as a means of data protection can negatively impact the business recovery time and recovery point objectives (RTO and RPO) for your company, and compromises critical business practices such as complying with regulatory requirements.

  For the same reasons that mp3 players are more commonly used today while music tapes are pretty much obsolete, remote backup is a better and more advanced solution for protecting your business-critical data.

In the event of a disaster, if employees are on vacation, managing a data center can pose a major challenge.  Remote backup solutions can be specified as a managed service to be installed into the existing infrastructure of your company ran by IT administrators.  If personnel are inaccessible during a critical time such as a server crash, an offsite solution is the guaranteed means of business continuity and disaster recovery.

Well it so happens that the  inevitable happened to me today and that is why this blog got set up to help others avoid the high fees in restoring your Microsoft vista Sony Viao laptop’s registry crash like mine!

Earlier today I rebooted my laptop and got the shocker of my life; my registry was corrupt. Now I had 2 options, use the vista recovery disk which I did not have or  contact a repair shop to recover the hard drive. Now the latter would have set me back over $200 dollars if I had to visit a geek squad.

I proceeded to find the fix by looking all over the web and guess I found it.

Listed below are two files used to create the disc. However, you need to know whether or not your computer is running on a 32 bit or a 64 bit operating system. Trust me find that out first , it is vital you do so to avoid wasting blank disks.

Once you are sure of the image you need you would need to do the following:

1. Download the appropriate .torrent file from above that corresponds to the version of Windows Vista you have installed.
2. Download and run µTorrent.
3. Open the .torrent file you downloaded with µTorrent. (File -> Add Torrent)
4. Select where you want µTorrent to save the Vista Recovery Disc.
5. Wait for it to download.
6. Burn the .iso file that µTorrent downloaded to a CD using these instructions.
7. When you want to use the recovery center, put the CD in your drive and boot from it. This is usually done by pressing F8 at startup, or changing the boot drive order in the BIOS.

Next you need to download or use a cd creator to burn the image file to the  CD. I used the free download imgburn.

Once you have created your disc, make sure your laptop can boot from the disc. You can do this by pressing F2 once you restart your computer; press the right  arrow key three times to select boot . Scroll down using the down arrow key once you select “boot” on the menu.  Select the boot from floppy disc and click F10 to save.

Next insert your newly created disc and follow the instructions; do not reinstall vista when prompted instead click on repair and you should go through the steps and voila! Your computer will be back and you would not have to spend $200 or more dollars to restore your computer. Next make sure you back up your data. we will talk about that in the next post.
